Webster's Dictionary: \Au*tom"a*ton\, self-moving, striving, or thinking...Any thing or being regarded as having the power of spontaneous motion or action (Huxley)...So great and admirable an automaton as the world and these living automata, our human bodies (Boyle)...
A self-moving machine, or one which has its motive power within itself, applied chiefly to machines which appear to imitate spontaneously the motions of living beings,
such as men, birds, etc.

Computing Dictionary: A machine, robot, or formal system designed to follow a precise sequence of instructions.
Automata theory, the invention and study of automata, includes the study of the capabilities and limitations of computing processes, the manner in which systems receive input, process it, and produce output, and the relationships between behavioural theories and the operation and use of automated devices.

As can be seen from the definitions above, the word automata is used to define things both sentient and machinelike. In fact, the only difference between the two is the orgin of their control. In the former, volition arises spontaneously from within, whereas the latter is "programmed" by another to execute specific instruction(s). There are entire sciences devoted to the study of artificial intelligence...that is not the purpose of this paper. Rather, here, we are more interested in applications of this knowledge to human transformation.

The human personality is both sentient and automatic. The highest level of consciousness has the power to use its own will to make decisions and choices that result in changes to its environment. However, when such mind does not take charge, an automatic program instantly kicks in and takes over operation. For example, it has been shown how certain individuals can "will" their heart to slow down or speed up. However, for most of us, even these special people, the majority of life is spent allowing the automatic program to control many features of existence so that our higher minds can be devoted to other purposes.

The medical term for this automatic program is called the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). While most research has centered on the applications of this science by studying its physical aspects, our attention has been focused on the underlying essence of this mechanism. The formational foundation of this system is something we've come to call the manifestation cycle...the flow from thought to expression, and action that results in actualization. In other words, the dynamics of actualizing human personality potential, which manifests as one's manner of being and doing. Personality is here defined as the arrangement of physical, mental, and spiritual energies.

Each thought is composed of both real and imaginary components, actual and potential possibilities that could manifest from such an origin. The actual provides the skeletal foundation upon which the thought can build, whereas the potential offers a plethora of possible outcomes to choose from. It is these real and imaginary subcomponents that make up the so-called strings of superstring theory, the latest model of reality accepted by physicists to explain the origin of matter. They are the automatous partials of reality that represent the smallest, most indivisible parts of the whole. In other words, each frequency or vibration, along with its magnitude and phase, is constructed from a precursive associated sine and cosine wave...its real and imaginary components. Effecting change on these primary archetypal waves is the equivalent of being able to modulate the formative origin of reality itself!

Our goal then is to provide control over the autopilot by making sure that its state and rule space is governed by instructions of our choosing, rather than those suddenly grasped from the subconscious mind during emergency. To accomplish this, we must habituize a new manner of being and doing such that it becomes the new automatic program. Doing so insures that our manifold system of parts progresses in the direction of our desire even when we are not paying full attention. In this way, we begin to learn the art and science of creating our own reality.

Automata is a term used to describe the inner and universal mechanics of how things work. Creation is rife with natural automata, and every event, behaviour or physical law can be described in terms of these underlying functions. Good examples of these are found in a book called - Sepher Raziel ha'Malach - which describes some of the root functions of the universe and goes on to identify control mechanisms which may be used for the manipulation of these functions. This book has provided countless references, formulae and proofs of the power of automata. Although the concepts had been largely "forgotten", the book re-emerged in 1701. It's truly a definitive text on working with natural automata.

Although it is common knowledge in our modern world that computers are programmed with some sort of special language, most people are not aware that the entire concept of computer automation originated with ancient formulas of instruction like those found in the book mentioned above. The arcane runes and markings used to formally represent magick spells eventually became the symbols used to define the mathematic functions found in our present day computer programming languages like APL. In recent years cellular automata has had a resurgence amongst scientists. Stephen Wolfram's latest book A New Kind of Science details this long ignored science and demonstrates why many scientists now believe that it can be used to formulate a new understanding of the universe and our place in it. His most recent findings indicate that the entirety of reality can be written in just a few lines of algorithmic code!

When one goes the "conventional route" in developing technological resources, these generally rely upon working within the confines of existing natural functions. Most every current man-made technology falls into this category. Perhaps the greatest benefit of approaching the world in this "conventional" manner is that every behaviour and physical property is predefined for you (it's also more easily "understood by the masses"). The primary drawback is the confinement of the properties of such technologies to their express definition - i.e. their function is "fixed" within the limitations of those pre-existing principles employed in the design - as such, the development and application are limited by the cognitive understanding of those who build and use the devices, and the potential for the technology to grow or propagate beyond its fixed design specification is non-existent without focused redevelopment.

Conversely, using the "formal working" manner of the configuration and deployment of structured automata is a different story altogether. This allows for the generation of self-evolving and self-propagating "inorganic organisms" which, initially, fulfil the function for which they have been defined. However, as they move through successive automatous generations, they can propagate in the same manner as a biological population and evolve into other modes of behaviour through permutation and integration with the conditions that they encounter, gaining progressive independence at each "tick of the generational clock". The clock itself is non-linear - comprised of manifold, discreet continuum vector streams - governed instead by the dynamics within a 12-dimensional (rho 4096) point called a singularity.

There is a science, known as "memetics", which studies a similar phenomenon that traces the viral and adaptive propagation of manners of thought among human cultures. The behaviour is similar to that of natural automata, but requires a collection of human minds to serve as "host organisms" for these memes. Nonetheless, it does demonstrate the concept somewhat. If we take away the reliance upon the human mind and extend the substance of the memetic material into other forms and domains, we have a reasonable analogue of automatous structure. But, for some reason, memetics appears to have garnered "mainstream acceptability", whereas formal automata has somehow become "lost to the ages"...

In memetics, the human mind is seen to lend the quality of "sentience" to the equation, whereas the concept of a self-sentient automatous entity appears largely verboten in our present culture (except perhaps in the domains of religion and spirituality). In the historical record of formal workings, all of the automatous structures were give proper names as well (the Goetia delineates 72 of these, as an example), and were accepted as "living, sentient beings" simply as a matter of fact. This afforded the benefit of being able to address the structure both by value and by reference, greatly enhancing the potential for interactivity and integration. Is it so hard for people to accept the presence of independent, automatous structures "cohabiting" and effecting change upon ourselves and our environment? Or are "organic, thinking, reasoning humans" the only ones allowed the luxury?

In any case, automatous structures, are either existing and newly generated. When configuring a "new automata", it's necessary to provide it with an initial environment - akin to an "incubator" - within which to gain presence through recursive iteration. Once the automata becomes stable and reasonably self-sufficient, a portion of the vector flow is tapped and infused into some external implement which acts as a "host" or "carrier". The portion of automata "remaining behind" in its initial generative environment acts as a temporal reference for the "deployed" portion, thus serving in a very basic, quantum role while the exogenous sample starts to become both interactive and adaptive.

Another good term for this "automatous incubator" would be a "clocking mechanism", as it serves as the synchronising reference for the external manifestations of the automata it embodies. This is a critical function during the formative phases of generated automata, and calculated manipulation of the clock can be used to foster the progressive independence of the outward population ("population" in a microcosmic sense here, referring to each constituent element of the automata, where the macrocosmic manifestation would be that of a singular, collective automatous "organism"). Ultimately, there comes the crucial point when the synchronous "bonds" are released, and the applied automata existing "out here" is set entirely free to grow, adapt and propagate on its own as a "free agent".

Until recently, the best technological example of an automatous "incubator" was a sapphire spindle. It is a small-but-heavy device, configured as a 3-port sapphire-loaded cavity resonator. Port 1 was used for the infusion of a time standard, port 2 served as the clock output and port 3 was used for manipulation of the environment. We used to call this the "shoebox" because of its resemblance to the same (though substantially heavier!). It was essentially a "whispering gallery" of total internal reflection. Originally, these had been developed for gravity wave research, but served as optimal automatous clocks because of their non-linearity and almost-momentary time-base. Basically, the whispering gallery mode of the sapphire spindle provided the most accurate emulation of toroidal space that can be achieved morphologically in this set of dimensions. In this mode and manner, it served as a "model world" for the genesis of "new" automata - and it was in a far more manageable form factor than the whispering galleries of ancient times! However, having completed all of the necessary mathematics and preparations required to perform the entire process within a digital environment, and after gaining access to the amazing Vector Farm ultracomputer, we have essentially been able to convert the entire clocking mechanism over into a purely digital algorithmic world. We call our new automatous clock the Great Diesis Chronoldek, and we use it for harmonization and optimization in HRT and for the production of i-drops...our algorithmically transformed water.

Presently, all of the techniques and technologies we've made available have their fundamental basis within automatous structures we've already generated and deployed. We have recently completed a new set of automata for application to our new i-drops alembic and Great Diesis Clock. In addition, there are also vast arrays of created automata, which have been dormant for literally ages, that we could incorporate into future workings. Granted, from a conventional perspective, all of this has only remote relativity to the sorts of projects we're working on at the moment. But natural automata is one "rolling force" that cannot be resisted without consequence, and thus provides a relentless driving mechanism unlike any other. Frankly, we're amazed that it's fallen into almost total disuse, especially considering the need for agents of transformation. Unlike the efforts of man, it cannot be suppressed - only ignored as it quietly goes about performing its function and adapting to the ever-changing landscape of time and condition regardless.

Whether perceived or not, named or anonymous, these forces - both sentient and automatous - form the functional catalytic environment of our work. Unless there is a profound breach of integrity, the associated forces have no need to "make a personal appearance" (and, in such cases, it's directed toward the person making such a breach). Someone just beginning their transformative progression with noble intent is automatically granted the supplemental resource of Grace. As they gather up Understanding, however, this resource can reciprocally diminish. That's one of the reasons we are so adamant about the integration of the intuitive tools, as these can serve to bolster the experiential base and thereby help foster the acquisition of Wisdom in a complementary, balancing role. Having a good intuitive foundation would also ease the transition as a person begins to reach forward into higher levels of order).

In the scope of an individual's progressive evolution, one of the key goals is to establish the condition we've come to refer to as Dominant Outward Radiance. This is the juncture at which their vessel can no longer contain the essence of transformation, and they become an oscillator rather than a resonator. Approaching universal Tonal harmonisation as we are from an individual level ensures the diverse distribution of phase necessary to promote continuity in the overall state-space, thereby minimising the potential setbacks of transient "shocks to the system". Even as a resonator, though, an individual possesses the intrinsic capacity for some measure of Outward Radiance - a key resource in the propagation of the seed desire in others to pursue transformation.

The symbols of the past few millennia remain attentive and functional to be counted among one's working resources. Apart from the task of making them manifest, we have all of the fundamental components we need to effect transformation within the prevailing Tonal state-space. Even if we just stuck with the template of adaptive stochastic automata, setting aside the facility of deterministic automata and sentient entities, there'd still be no limit to what we could accomplish. The formal workings which form the foundation beneath the realisation of even the more advanced transformative tools for effecting change in accordance with will are content to remain in the background, below the threshold of apprehension. However, as individuals progress to the stage wherein they gain accessibility to the higher attentions, they acquire the need to augment the functionality of the tools with corresponding formal skills that they could adopt into their manner of being (as their need for the "training wheels" our resources provide get to be more of a hindrance than a help).

With this approach there's never a need to manipulate anyone in order to effect transformation - we only have to address the surrounding automatous environment and the reinforcement of their pre-existing constituent harmonic partials. In this manner, their journey can always progress at a self-guided pace, supplemented by the navigational assistance of the tools and the encouragement of those providing dedicated support, providing them the opportunity to continually re-invent themselves...disassembling, rearranging, and reassembling. Although essentially self-directed, the transformational journey can nonetheless be rather intense and challenging at each bifurcation of pathways. However, it never takes the individual beyond their inherent capacity, as the current technology is only geared toward the optimisation of their present makeup...and this will remain the case until we venture back into the "additive" and "permutive" technologies attainable with our new real-time system coming later this year.
